Redd Restaurant

My friend and I recently had lunch at Redd (www.redd.com) in Yountville. This restaurant is the creation of Chef Richard Reddington, formerly of Auberge du Soleil and Masa’s, The décor was a little stark for my taste, but the food was marvelous. We started with a tasting of cold foie gras preparations with pears and brioche. Each preparation was extraordinary – there were three of them and we could hardly wait to try the next one. We then moved to the incredibly fresh and flavorful tuna and hamachi tartare with apple mustard dressing and sticky rice. The flavors and textures were perfect together. Next, we dined upon caramelized diver scallops, cauliflower puree, almonds and a balsamic reduction. This was followed by duck confit tartines with white bean puree. Each taste was over-the-top with flavor and freshness. For dessert, we chose the crème brulee. Although I had heard reports of service with a bit of an attitude, we had a great experience with the staff – they were very friendly and knowledgeable
